Okkie Jooste Camp

When we were first told about the Life science camp I was like "Argg work work work"I was really not interested to go especially when they said there is a make up practical for those who cant go on the trip.I then decided that  that's a field trip I had to be.I cant afford to miss out on the work that will be done in the camp.

So on the day of the camp we got to the campsite at the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve .What a beautiful area it is.I instantly fell in love with the area. The camp site was surrounded by mountains and different plantation. We had our first presentation being introduced to the [placed and given some background information about the place. After that we went to set mammal traps. We were walking in the woods and were given a little demonstration on how to set mammal traps. We had a lot of time to relax and have fun as there were team building games games as well :)after mammal trapping we had to comeback and prepare for super huh??cook, OK this was one thing I had to challenge myself with because I cant cook.

On the following day.We learnt about dichotomous keys which was a presentation by Lyle,Frogs, sassi, river ecology.I really enjoyed the river ecology talk because we learnt  about different components in the river as the river runs from Eesterivier. On Sunday night we went for star gazing. We listened to the beautiful sound s of the night, saw the pattern of Sagittarius in the stars ,such a wonderful moment for self absorbing.OOh we also had a talent show "laughs",It was good to see my fellow classmates are soo talented, the talent show gave everyone time to loosen up and enjoy themselves. We had to take notes on the work we were doing as we had to present on Monday night. On Monday we woke up and played some games and we had to Go on the hike with Dr Boatwright. He showed us different plant species as we had a worksheet to fill in.While hiking we also had to trap insects as we had to identify them later on using microscopes. We ,managed to identify the insects using dichotomous keys, which was very educational by the way.On Monday night we had to present as groups of all the work we had covered.
